Music by Chance

It was a few weeks back while attending a concert up in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin that put my ears into action in finding a band that was unrecognizable to me. The music being played over the speaker system in-between sets at the current concert had really grabbed my attention. I noticed myself grooving to their rhythm and when looking around noticed many others doing the same. Even the events director was digging the tunes and so I found my way to her to ask if she knew who was playing. She said she didn’t know but would find out. As it turns out the name of the band are the Fell Boyzs and they hail from near by Racine, Wisconsin. After doing a Google search I found their web site and noticed they were opening the 2006 Jazz in the Park series on

June 1st at Cathedral Square park located in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As fate would have it this would be my first chance to see my new musical discovery.

The Fell Boyzs are a band comprised of family members. Tom Fell (drummer) who happens to be the father to sons Zach Fell (saxophonist) and Kyle Fell (Bassist, Vocalist) along with uncle Billy Fell (Guitarist). My excitement and anticipation was only heightened by the band once they began playing. They opened with a blues tuned named “Blues for Blue” followed by “Into the Fire” and “Drag of the Dream”. Next followed a new tune to be released on their next CD called “It’s Over”. “ Pocket City”, African Beatnik”, “Walking the Dog” and “Jazzy Feel” led to Billy Fell’s rendition of our National Anthem.
